The Eagle Cup – Apeldoorn Karate Open is an international round-robin kumite tournament officially recognized by the Karate-do Bond Nederland (KBN) as an OAV event. Strategically positioned between Amsterdam, Cologne, Brussels, and Hamburg, it brings together karateka of all ages and levels. Organized by René Smaal Karate, the tournament celebrates fair play, growth, and excellence, offering a high-quality platform where top-level performance and inclusive participation go hand in hand.

The inaugural edition of the Eagle Cup – Apeldoorn Karate Open takes place at Omnisport Apeldoorn, a world-class venue perfectly suited for high-level competition. With five tatami and a round-robin format, this international kumite tournament guarantees a dynamic and inspiring day of continuous action.

We are aiming for approximately 400 contenders from across the Netherlands and abroad – athletes who will bring their talent, determination, and fighting spirit to the tatami in pursuit of honor, personal growth, and the prestige of lifting the very first Eagle Cup.

With this event, we want to offer athletes a solid, well-organized competition where they can test themselves and grow — no fuss, just good karate.

  • Omnisport Apeldoorn is a state-of-the-art indoor sports complex that regularly hosts national and international sporting events. Its professional facilities, central location, and capacity make it an ideal setting for a prestigious karate tournament like the Eagle Cup.

  • Yes, all matches at the Eagle Cup are conducted under the World Karate Federation (WKF) rules and regulations, as endorsed by the KBN. This ensures consistency, safety, and high-level refereeing throughout the event. Please read the full convocation at sportdata. 

  • Athletes must wear a mouthguard, gloves, shin and foot guards, and groin guard. For competitors in the U14 category, a helmet is also mandatory. Helmets will be provided by the organization if needed.
